Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group is a registered charity, founded over 34 years ago We offer the hand of fellowship to those with myotonic dystrophy, their families, carers and friends. Myotonic Dystrophy is a genetic progressive neuromuscular condition, to which at present there is no treatment. Can affect and be passed on by both sexes. Onset can be at any age from birth (congenital) to late adult. It can affect every muscle in the body. Caution is necessary with anaesthetics and sedation. Mobility problems, extreme tiredness, poor fine motor control, indistinct speech, swallowing, abnormal heart rhythm are all common symptoms.
