In the midst of overstretched systems and rising pressures, how can GPs reconnect with what matters most? This interactive session offers a restorative space to ‘draw breath’ and explore how creative practices — from simple reflective exercises to arts-based approaches — can nurture human flourishing in everyday general practice and medical education.

Led by the RCGP Creative Health Special Interest Group, we’ll share stories, try out practical tools, and open space for imagination, connection, and care.

Together, we’ll consider how these small, creative acts not only support personal and professional wellbeing but can also seed wider cultural and systemic change — cultivating more humane, sustainable ways of working in general practice.

Creative health for clinicians, students and patients and the movement from demand for resilience towards flourishing and flourishing spaces.

Leave with one creative idea to test in your own setting, and consider joining the Creative Health SIG to co-create a more human, hopeful future for general practice.

This is as relevant for frontline clinicians as clinical educators, first 5, medical students with secondary impact on our connection with patients.

An estimated 340,000 people are thought to have a gambling disorder in the UK, with another two million experiencing harm from gambling and at risk of developing a gambling disorder.

Currently, healthcare professionals have limited knowledge and awareness in this area. Gambling disorder has primarily been considered a male-dominated area. However, more recently, there has been an increase in the numbers of women gambling. This session will explore how GPs can identify patients in a consultation, the female patient perspective, stigma and practical actions for general practice.

The Daffodil standards (The Daffodil Standards (rcgp.org.uk)) can be used by any member of the primary care team to improve an area of care or support important to them. The annual Daffodil standards awards showcase outstanding examples of where they have been used and embedded to improve care which will be shared in this session.

Through case studies we will demonstrate how implementing the veteran friendly accreditation scheme is a rewarding activity for the whole practice team with the learning and support being shared across the wider practice team, both clinical and non-clinical staff with e.g. social prescribing link workers ideally placed to play a key role in delivering this scheme.

We'll share information about the key, third sector organisations e.g. charities that provide support to veterans and their families.

Nominated 'clinical leads' do not need to be veterans - in fact most are not - demonstrating that you don’t need military experience to make a life-changing difference for this vulnerable patient group.
