
Dr Helen Garr
Dr. Helen Garr is the Medical Director of NHS Practitioner Health, an award-winning national service supporting healthcare professionals with mental health and addiction challenges—believed to be the largest of its kind in the world.
A GP and recognised expert in mental health and well-being, Helen has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and organisations in fostering healthier, more resilient workplaces. She previously worked in student health as a GP at the University of Nottingham Health Service and continues to practise out-of-hours general medicine.
Helen’s diverse background includes psychology and nursing before entering medicine, equipping her with a unique, holistic perspective on healthcare. She is a former Public Health England Clinical Champion for Physical Activity, a past Director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, and a dedicated coach and mentor for healthcare professionals. She also serves as the Wellbeing Lead for Nottinghamshire LMC.
Passionate about suicide prevention and postvention, Helen has contributed to several national expert working groups in this field. She is a guest lecturer at the University of Nottingham and the founder and director of The Wellbeing GP which delivers expert training, keynote speaking, and interactive workshops on wellbeing, resilience, and health, empowering individuals and organisations to thrive.
An internationally recognised speaker, Helen is known for her engaging, practical, and inspiring talks that leave lasting impact. an organisation dedicated to promoting compassionate leadership and kindness in healthcare.
Outside of work, you’ll find her open-water swimming (mainly in summer), running half marathons (slowly), or walking her chocolate Labrador, Eileen.
