Juvenile Arthritis Research

Juvenile Arthritis Research is a charity making a difference to the lives of those affected by juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). We are a parent- and patient-led charity with direct experience of JIA and rely on the support of our volunteers. JIA is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the joints causing inflammation, pain and reduced mobility.

Our vision is a world where no child has to suffer from arthritis. Our core aims include research to find a cure for JIA, raising awareness that children and young people get arthritis and providing support to children with JIA and their families. We rely entirely on fundraising and donations, with every penny raised going directly towards the work we do.

Research - We undertake research into JIA to understand the causes, the effects and the impacts of the condition and to work towards finding a cure. We also support other research and quality improvement projects.

Awareness - Raising awareness that children and young people get arthritis helps reduce delays to diagnosis, and that can lead to better outcomes for children and young people with JIA. As we increase awareness of the condition, we can help make life better for those with JIA by removing the stigma attached to having a long-term, but often invisible, health condition.

Support - At Juvenile Arthritis Research, we support children and young people with JIA and their families on their journey. We provide support packs and other resources, and are continuing to develop new ideas and projects to help those with JIA.

Advocacy - Alongside our core aims above, we are also involved in advocacy, policy change and campaigns. Our advocacy work includes organising awareness events, developing resources for schools and communities, participating in international initiatives, and amplifying messages through effective global partnerships. By ensuring patient and parent perspectives are included in research and policy discussions, we improve support, care, and outcomes for children with JIA and their families.
