Dr Markus Schichtel

Dr Schichtel is a GP at Nene Valley Hodgson Medical Practices in Peterborough and a GP Cardiologist at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. He established a primary care heart failure service that used pharmacist-led optimisation of guideline-directed medical therapy to raise the proportion of patients on optimal treatment from 17.7% to 94.5%, delivering a sustained 42% reduction in GP workload. The service was published in BMJ Open Quality and nominated for an NHS excellence award by the Cardiac Network East of England. He is a clinical researcher at the University of Cambridge, holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, and has contributed to the national GIRFT Cardiology board.
