Dr Joy Shacklock

RCGP Clinical Policy Representative for Safeguarding, RCGP

Dr Joy Shacklock is an NHS and Independent GP in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. She is the RCGP Clinical Policy Representative for Safeguarding and has been with the college in a safeguarding capacity since 2017. Joy’s role in the college involves developing safeguarding resources for general practice which can be found in the RCGP Safeguarding Hub. In addition, Joy works closely with the teams in the college and other organisations such as the GMC, ICO, RCPCH, RCN, NHSE, DHSC and the Department of Education in national safeguarding issues such as policy and guidance.

Joy is also a Named GP for safeguarding children and adults in North Yorkshire and City of York. Outside of this role, she is a safeguarding trainer and consultant. Her experience in general practice includes 13 years as an NHS GP Partner and practice safeguarding lead as well as many years as the Homeless Health Lead in Harrogate. She also works in the independent health sector as a GP and practice safeguarding lead. Joy delivers regular safeguarding training in all of her roles.
