Dr Jack Joyce

Dr Jack B. Joyce is a researcher at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Their research develops and tests interventions in clinical trials to support behaviour change, with a focus on weight loss, remission and smoking reduction and cessation. Dr Joyce specialises in evidence-based communication, using the sociolinguistic method of ‘Conversation Analysis’ to examine real-world interactions between clinicians and patients. This approach puts ‘conversation’ under the microscope to identify what actually works in practice, moving beyond intuition or assumption to ground communication interventions and training in robust evidence.
