Dr Edward Russell-Smith

Sessional GP, “Rediscover the Joy of General Practice” project

Dr Edward Russell-Smith is a seasoned General Practitioner, with a remarkable career spanning over three decades in West Lothian. In 2003, he founded a Practice de novo, an initiative earning recognition with the RCGP Scotland Award 2013. His expertise then revitalised and amalgamated an additional struggling practice. Concurrently, he trained Educational Supervisors nationally for a decade, while leading GP CPD for Southeast Scotland. Passionate about mentorship, he supports young doctors and motivates many medical students. Retiring from full-time practice in 2024, Dr Russell-Smith joined the 'Rediscover the Joy' project, providing sessional cover in remote and rural Scotland. Dr Russell-Smith has chaired Southeast Scotland RCGP Faculty, of which he is currently Provost. Guided by the mantra: 'If you want to be happy, be kind. If you want others to be happy, be kind.' Away from work, Dr Russell-Smith horse rides regularly, trains in Body Balance & Spin, and enjoys road cycling.
