Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency

We are the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). We are the UK regulator of medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion. We offer a range of products and services to help the life sciences sector meet the highest standards.

Our Yellow Card scheme is how patients, the public and healthcare professionals report suspected side effects to medicines, vaccines, e-cigarettes, medical device incidents, and defective or falsified (fake) products to us, so that we can make sure they are safe and effective to use. Our Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) data services offer a quality-assured source of longitudinal and representative, real-time UK population health data, for epidemiological and pharmacoepidemiological research.

GP practices across the UK contribute pseudonymised patient data to CPRD. Research using CPRD data informs clinical guidance and best practice, investigating drug safety, use of medicines, effectiveness of health policy, health care delivery and disease risk factors. CPRD is delivered with support from the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
