Bone Cancer Research Trust
The Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) is the leading charity dedicated to improving outcomes for those affected by primary bone cancer (pbc). Our mission is to save lives through strategic pillars of research, information, awareness, and support. Every year, an estimated 560 people are diagnosed with a primary bone cancer, also known as bone sarcoma, including young adults and children. Since 2006, BCRT has funded over £11 million to gain a deeper understanding of the disease, enhancing diagnostic methods and developing kinder, more effective treatments.
Symptoms of pbc are often vague and nonspecific, which can contribute to delays in referral for diagnosis. We aim to increase awareness among healthcare professionals so that the red flag symptoms are not missed. GPs have been identified by our patient community as a priority for collaboration in these efforts. We look forward to building relationships with the medical community so they can confidently recognise when to make a swift referral.
