Professor Bruce Guthrie
Professor Bruce Guthrie is a GP and mixed methods health services researcher with an interest in the quality and safety of healthcare, particularly in relation to multimorbidity, polypharmacy and later life (www.edin.care). His work spans the range of basic epidemiological and qualitative work to understand problems and context, through the development and evaluation of complex interventions, to working with healthcare services and policymakers to improve care.
During COVID, Professor Guthrie has contributed research and collaborated with Public Health Scotland and others in relation to the catastrophic impact in care homes. He has sat on numerous national committees to support research translation and inform policy including chairing the guideline development group for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence national clinical guideline for the care of people with multimorbidity, membership of the Scottish Pharmacogenomics Working Group, and membership of the SAGE Social Care Work Group.
