Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard became Chair of the RCGP in November 2016. Helen is naturally enthusiastic and dynamic, with a sense of humour and plenty of pragmatism.
She is a part-time GP partner at The Cloisters Medical Practice in Lichfield, Staffordshire, which she joined in 2002 after her academic GP training in inner-city Birmingham. She is clinical lead for women’s health, sexual health, stroke and cancer, as well as leading on practice finances, research and audit.
Helen is also Head of Primary Care Teaching in the Medical School of the University of Birmingham. Although no longer research active, her research interests span gynaecological cancer screening, all aspects of women’s health, epidemiology and data linkage studies.
As well as being the Academic Head of Community Based Medicine teaching (undergraduate GP training), she is also Head of the respected Academic GP Trainees programme at Birmingham (including MOD, NIHR and locally funded academic GP trainees), runs an MSc module in Community Gynaecology and teaches Medical Ethics and advanced communication skills.
