Project Description

Sleep Apnoea Trust Association

Stand J34

The Scottish Association for Sleep Apnoea and the Sleep Apnoea Trust are campaigning to increase the level of awareness amongst GPs about sleep apnoea, to inform them of the serious consequences if undiagnosed and to encourage them to increase referrals to the network of specialist Sleep Clinics.

Only 500,000 of up to 3.9 million adults in Great Britain who may have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) have been diagnosed and treated.

The cost per patient of undiagnosed OSA is twice that of diagnosis and treatment, due to increased risk of road accidents by sleepy drivers and the increased risk of stroke, heart attack and hypertension.
